The Best Salad Ever!
Ingredients:
½ Romaine Lettuce
1 cucumber
1 red pepper
¼ bunch of cilantro
2 tomatoes
Juice of 1 lemon
¼ cup of olive oil

Directions:
Place all ingredients in the food processor. Chop until nicely blended then serve (didn’t we say it was easy).

This is a great salad to enjoy during a cleanse or eat as your daily lunch – it’s healthy, quick, and delicious. We recommend eating it with a spoon because the food processor does a great job of chopping the salad in little pieces (you don’t want them falling through the fork). Good news though, the small pieces help your body with the digestion process.

The purpose of a nut milk bag is to strain the nut pulp from the milk after the nuts and water are ground in the blender. What is created is a creamy, protein rich, calcium rich, zinc rich milk. The nut pulp, which remains in the bag, can be thrown out or used in recipes or beauty scrubs.

- Place your nut milk bag into either a large bowl or a 4 cup large measuring cup.

- Pour your nut puree into the bag.

- With recently washed hands, pick up the bag and gently begin squeezing the bag as you would the udder of a cow.

- Gently continue to press and squeeze until the largest portion of milk is extracted. A firmer squeeze be applied to get the remaining milk extracted from the pulp.

- All done. Fresh and RAW. Perfection!

The reason I love, use, and highly recommend Elaina Love’s Amazing Nut Milk Bag is it’s construction and material. This nut milk bag is made from 100% sturdy nylon. It is a fine mesh nylon that filters out only the milk without any pulp passing thru the mesh. This nylon material is much stronger that the cheese cloth bags or some of the organic materials of other bags.  This bag also works better that using a plain metal strainer as the holes of a strainer are not tiny enough and particles will come thru the strainer into the milk making a choking feeling in your throat. We want smoooooth nut milk : ) !

This nut milk bag does not stretch out of shape and it can be squeezed and twisted in many directions to get all the milk out of the pulp without causing any spilt seams or bulges. It also has a great oval shape for placing inside large measuring cups or bowls.

An additional use for nut milk bags is juicing. The first application is … if you don’t own a juicer, you can blend fruits and veggies in a blender. Put this puree into the nut milk bag, hang the nut milk bag from a cabinet and allow it to drain into a large bowl. Use your hands to press out the remaining juice. The second application is…if you are using a juicer, additional juice is in your juice pulp. Place the vegetable pulp into the nut milk bag and squeeze. Up to an additional cup of juice can be found from milking the vegetable pulp.

What I also like about this bag is that it can be cleaned using hydrogen peroxide and water mixed together to refresh the bag. If your bag begins to look tired and it needs freshening, here is a recipe that will refresh your bag to new.

To clean: mix together 1/3 cup hydrogen peroxide and 2/3 cup filtered water. Soak bag for 15 minutes then rinse with clear water.

Almond Butter – The Healthier Alternative to Peanut Butter

Yummy, creamy, gooey, delicious almond butter – oh, how I love thee!

Here’s our almond butter story: when we dove head first into the world of natural health years ago, we were eating peanut butter like it was going out of business. Seriously, isn’t everything a little more delicious with a scoop (yeah, I said scoop – no judging!) of peanut butter: Ezekiel bread, apples, celery and raisins, smoothies, or oatmeal. Oh, and of course, the best way is straight out of the jar. For years we continued sprucing all foods imaginable up with peanut butter until one day a natural health expert shared the major differences between almond butter and peanut butter – and that it’s much healthier to choose almond butter.

While almond butter and peanut butter have roughly the same nutritional profiles (carbs, proteins, fats,), peanut crops are susceptible to afungus called aflatoxins. Various studies have shown aflatoxins are carcinogenic and the FDA even regulates the amount allowed. However, as the health expert pointed out, you can never be too careful with a known carcinogenic – it’s better to be safe than sorry.  Plus, if you’re trying to lose a few pounds, many people think that almond butter tends to be more filling than peanut butter – meaning you eat less and still feel satisfied.

While we mentioned that almond butter tends to help people lose weight compared to peanut butter, you still don’t want to go (too) crazy eating just nut butter!  According to the USDA Food Pyramid, almond butter equals 1 serving from the Meat and Beans Group, so just like you wouldn’t sit and eat 5 steaks in one sitting, same goes for tablespoons of almond butter.  Here’s the nutritional info for 1 tablespoon of raw, unprocessed almond butter:

1 Tablespoon = 2 grams Protein, 9 grams fat, 4 grams carbs = 100 calories = loads of Magnesium, Manganese, 4% of daily calcium, 3% of Iron, and several B Vitamins – riboflavin, folate, and niacin.

What’s also great about almond butter is it’s an easy, quick, and long-lasting fuel food since it consists of 8% protein, 78% fat, and 14% carbs. This is a perfect ratio to keep you satisfied. If you’re thinking “wow, 78% fat – that’s a lot”, stop! Using fat for energy is so much better than using carbs in the form of grains for energy. Forget any hype you heard about fat – it is not the enemy! Ok, whew, glad that’s settled, now we can get to the fun part – eating it!

If you’re like most people though, when you come across a recipe that calls for a teaspoon of vanilla, you probably think “simple, easy ingredient to find” (you probably even have some type of vanilla flavoring in your kitchen now).

Unfortunately, not all brands of vanilla flavoring are created equal (you knew that was coming). The problem is that most large commercial brands make their vanillasynthetically with artificial flavors (it’s called imitation vanilla) –not what you want in your pure, pristine healthy home kitchen!

There are three high quality and full-flavor ways to bring vanilla into your kitchen: vanilla extract, vanilla bean, and vanilla bean powder.

Vanilla bean powder sounds delicious, but you may be wondering how you would actually use it (not being a professional chef and all).  However, vanilla bean powder is used in baking and sauces the same way as extract; it just holds a stronger, more robust flavor. See, we’ll all about sharing easy solutions with you!

Really, the decision to use Vanilla Bean Extract or Vanilla Bean Powder is simply personal preference. One thing to note though, Vanilla Bean Powder lasts for a very long time; in fact, it gets better with age as does a good wine. Vanilla extract is also very potent, so a little goes a long way (this means your bottle will last awhile too).

How to Skin Brush:

- Brush towards the heart.

- Start with your feet and ankles, brushing over your toes, top of foot, ankles and over the calf area. Focus on the back of the knee as this is a location of lymph glands.

- Come up over the thigh area and focus on the groin another area of lymph node. Brush over your butt and up your lower back. Brush from your groin over your abdomen.

- Take a pause on the abdomen to brush from the right to the left in a circle which will stimulate your colon area. Continue you up your abdomen to under your breast breast area.

- At the breast area come up between the breast towards your collar bone area for a few strokes. Now brush your breast area from under your arm pit towards the nipple, come under the breast brushing inward and on top of the breast brushing downward.

- From collar bone downward. From under arm up over arm pit. Now from tips of fingers to armpit. Now from spine to underarm area.
